Welcome!
I am glad you found your way here.
My name is Dr. Sofie Shouse and I am a Licensed Clinical Psychologist specializing in the treatment of eating disorders, anxiety and depression.
Individual Therapy
Eating Disorders
I specialize in working with teens (15+) and adults struggling with multiple types of eating disorders, disordered eating habits, binge eating, body-image concerns, and people who struggle in their relationship with food and body, whether they meet criteria for an eating disorder or not. I work from a Health at Every Size perspective.
Mood and Anxiety Disorders
I have many years of experience working with individuals experiencing depression and/or mood fluctuations, generalized anxiety, social phobia, and obsessive-compulsive symptoms.
Other Areas of Competence
I am affirming of individuals who practice polyamory and/or identify as LGBTQIA+. I am neurodivergent knowledgeable. I have experience working with people who struggle in relationships, engage in negative coping skills such as non-suicidal self-harm, have a hard time focusing, struggle with emotional dysregulation, and/or battle perfectionism. You do not need to meet criteria for a mental health diagnosis to benefit from therapy.
Eating disorders happen to people in all body types, shapes, and sizes. You are not alone.
Therapy is about empathy and compassion, about purposeful conversation and genuine connection.
There is such a thing as a Health at Every Size approach to mental and physical well-being, and it is freeing.
In it, we find harmony.
That voice in the back of your head, the bully, the drill sergeant, the monster, is lying to you.
You are marvelous just the way you are.
We are living in unprecedented times. Really, we are, and it is stressful.
Your journey to recovery starts with a single step, taken right from where you are.
Are you the ideal client?
Are you unhappy with ‘how’ you are doing life and feel ready to start exploring what may need to change?
Do you value and appreciate humor, directness, and meaningful conversation?
Are you someone who is open to change? You may not be ready for change just yet, but you know that therapy is hard work, and you are willing to work toward trying new things?
Are you someone who agrees to take responsibility for your part in therapy, you commit to attending therapy sessions on a regular basis, and you intend to work toward applying what you learn in therapy in your day-to-day life?
About AspenTree Virtual Services
AspenTree Psychotherapy, LLC is a telehealth private practice located in Cincinnati, Ohio. AspenTree provides virtual therapy services for teens (15+) and adults who reside in Ohio, Kentucky, or any of the 42 PSYPACT states.
Virtual therapy services are provided through Simple Practice, a HIPAA compliant Electronic Medical/Health Records platform.
At this time, AspenTree is an exclusively self-pay practice. According to the No Surprises Act, every client (who will not bill insurance for their therapy sessions), must be provided with a Good Faith Estimate at the outset of therapy.
Superbills are available upon client request. A Superbill allows clients to submit an out-of-network insurance claim to their insurance company for the possibility of partial or full reimbursement. It is your responsibility to check with your insurance company about your out-of-network mental health benefits.

For Current Clients
-
Because all sessions are virtual, you can be at your location of preference for sessions. Clients can join the SimplePractice platform from a computer, tablet, or cell phone. However, using a device with a good size screen is generally more conducive to therapeutic rapport. Clients typically tend to login from home, but sometimes join session from work, in their car, or while on vacation (as long as you are physically located in one of the PSYPACT states). Most important is that you are comfortable, and in a private location with reliable internet.
-
Frequency of therapy sessions are established on a case-by-case basis and discussed during the intake appointment. Some clients prefer weekly sessions, while others prefer bi-weekly sessions. Ideally, session frequency is high at first, then decreases with progress.
-
All client inquiries will be answered during normal business hours, and when at all possible, within 48 hours of receiving a message.
-
Payment is due at time of service. As a client, you will have a credit card, HSA or FSA card on file through the SimplePractice client portal. AspenTree is not privy to your card number but will charge your card shortly after each therapy session. There is a $25 fee for any declined transactions.
-
When you schedule a therapy appointment, that slot of time is held specifically for you, whether you use it or not. Therefore, no shows and cancellations not made within 48h of the time of the appointment will be charged the full session fee to your card on file. If you are more than 10 minutes late to your appointment without communicating this, your appointment will be cancelled, and you will be charged the full session fee.

To find out about your out-of-network mental health benefits, please call the number on the back of your insurance card. It is a good idea to ask:
1) if your plan offers out-of-network mental health benefits,
2) if virtual telehealth sessions are covered,
3) if you have an out-of-network deductible and how much has been met,
4) how much you would be reimbursed per visit,
5) if you need prior approval or a referral for reimbursement, and
6) how long the process for reimbursement takes. -
Please call 911, or head to your nearest emergency room.
